FILET, BRIDLE, BRIDE, WHAT'S UP?

Among the questions that come up very frequently in our FAQ, here is one that it was time to answer: "What is the difference between a bridle, a headstall, and a bit?" ⚡️ Well, you'll see, as always, it's very very simple ❤️

1. THE HEADSTALLS AND BITS

It starts well, headstall and bit are synonyms! The "technical name" for this harness is the headstall, but it is not uncommon for us to use the word bit in everyday language.

So, a headstall what is it exactly? It is a piece that is an integral part of the horse's working equipment. Often made of leather, you can also find them in synthetic materials. It will be placed on the horse's head, resting on the nape and allowing the installation of a single bit. The latter is the piece that creates the connection and allows communication between the horse's mouth (the corner of the lips very precisely) and the hand of its rider 📝

2. THE BRIDLES

The big difference between the bridle and the bit is simply the number of bits that can be installed on the harness. Here, it is possible to install two bits on the intended fittings. ⚠️ : Attention, the adjustment of these is crucial and we will pay particular attention to it!

But why put two bits in our horses' mouths, you may ask? This will appear in the search for precision, balance, and collection for experienced riders as well as horses that have advanced enough in the search for the correct attitude or even high school figures. Here, the double bit will allow for a play between a "lifting" effect thanks to the snaffle bit and a "lowering" effect thanks to the curb bit. It is not uncommon to encounter this harness among riders practicing dressage, but it can also be observed, much more rarely, among show jumping riders. We strongly emphasize that the curb bit is not to be put in every hand, nor in every mouth. Do not hesitate to turn to a competent coach to take the step, if necessary ❤️
